Southern Pine Council recently launched the "Build to a Higher Standard" campaign, promoting the advantages of raised pier-and-beam or crawlspace foundations to Gulf Coast builders and homeowners. The campaign features regional advertising and media events that direct homeowners to raisedfloorliving.com, where they can learn more about cost savings, insurance benefits, reduced flood risk and aesthetic charm associated with raised floor homes. In addition, the SPC will be active in Gulf Coast hurricane recovery efforts, conducting raised floor builder seminars, advocating improved building standards and participating in the planning process for community redevelopment.

Bert Jones, former LSU and all-pro NFL quarterback, is spearheading the campaign, reaching out to radio, television and print media viewers from Beaumont, Texas to Pensacola, Florida, with the "Build to a Higher Standard" message. Jones is a Louisiana native and co-owner of Mid-States Wood Preservers in Simsboro, LA. He has lived in a raised floor home for more than 20 years, and thoroughly understands the benefits and advantages of this construction style.
